Mud Creek Rotary Club Adopts A Day!

Mud Creek Rotary

Members of The Mud Creek Rotary Club from Wolfville took time to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity, Nova Scotia, Annapolis Valley Project on Saturday April 16. They were a pleasure to have work with us! Not only did they help with building Habitat's first Valley build, they helped by also raising funds through the Adopt a Day program. Support from groups like Mud Creek Rotary is a great example of how local communities can work together to build a better tomorrow for others and for their community. Habitat thanks all of them for their support and their interest in the project.

TD Bank Adopts FIVE Days!

TDBankAdoptADay

Teams from TD bank came out for five days, participating in our Adopt a Day, to lend a hand with building the valley's first Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia, Annapolis Valley home. TD employees are able to say they helped build the home for two valley families, brought hope, a team spirit together with a real sense of social responsibility!

** Major wind storm blows down roof trusses.

December 15
The storm which hit the Valley area, unfortunately did not spare our new construction on Maple Avenue.  The wind caused some major damage to our trusses. Regardless it did not damper our spirits and certainly not the spirits of the great team of students who have been working on the build from Kings Tech. They will be repairing any damage and as a result have all secured at the site for beginning of new year.  Our Kings' Tech students will return to the site in early January and simply pick up were they left off. What a God send they have been! Our ground breaking ceremony was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it was a full house for the reception later at Just Us in Wolfville. We would like to thank all our sponsors who came out to help us celebrate as well as our volunteers. The steering committee will meet in the new year to plot our course forward. We have much to be thankful for!

December 7
We have a home for two families, fast taking shape in Wolfville thanks to the carpentry class at Kings Tech and the leadership of John Owen and his team on the build committee. They have been on site for the past several weeks framing up the house.  We hope it will be roof/weather tight by the end of next week.  Speaking of next week, our groundbreaking ceremony will be held, December 15th at the build location [ 104 Maple Ave. in Wolfville],starting at 2pm. We'll then head down to Just Us Coffee shop on Main St. for a short ceremony with coffee and cake. Please come along with family and friends and help us celebrate. Athis time our plans are to continue building with your help through the winter but on a more relaxed pace. We may only work on weekends or on good weather days. Once spring and the better weather arrives we'll schedule volunteer work schedules six days a week. We hope to be able to dedicate this duplex to two families sometime in May or June. As we near this next phase of the project the steering commoittee will be sure to keep you informed.  I'm also happy to announce that our family selection committee has a family selected. They will bring this, as procol requires to the Board of Directors of Habitat HRM for their approval. We should have final approval early in the new year.  At this time I'd like to ask if any of you have tools or safety gear which you would consider donating or lending to our project it would be greatly appreciated. Hammers, tool belts, tape measures, safety goggles, hard hats, work gloves, used steel toed work boots, pry bars, skill saws, hand saws, carpenters square, levels, mitre saw, hack saw, jig saw, table saw or even work benches would all be put to good use in the next six months. Please contact Belinda at the Habitat address if you can help us in this regard. We can arrange to pick up any items or arrange for you to drop things  off.  You'll be hearing from our volunteer coordinator in the near future to start scheduling work days for our volunteers. I know this is the time many of you have been waiting for.  Our fund raising committee continues to plan new and exciting ways to raise money. Yes we need more!! If you have any great fundraising ideas please share them with us.  Finally let me remind all of us why we're doing this. We believe in a world where all people have a home which is safe, decent and affordable. Next spring, with your help, there will be two Valley families who will realize this dream. You will be providing the Hand Up they so greatly need and deserve!

Planning an event in support of Habitat for Humanity AV?

Fundraising events held by individuals, groups and our community partners allow Habitat for Humanity AV to increase our capacity to build more homes in partnership with families living in need in our area. Without the compassion of people like you, we could not make the dream of home ownership a reality for many hard working families living in need. Your time, energy and contributions help make all this possible and contribute to the Habitat for Humanity AV mission.

If you have chosen to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity HRM/ AV through an event, we are eager to help support you.

To get started, please download our Third Party Events Toolkit. After careful review of the document, contact us at info@habitatav.com to find out how Habitat for Humanity HRM/ AV can help you make a tangible difference in your community.
